  • Promoting patient needs and aspirations
  • Acting as a critical friend to the practice
  • Influencing the implementation of change within the practice

Achieving the PPG’s Aims and Objectives:

  • Increasing the PPG membership and breadth of representation through greater promotion
  • Giving a more formal role to the members of the PPG
  • Achieving a better understanding of the healthcare issues and challenges of the patients within the Practice through research and
  • Improving the influence of the PPG members within the local community and the wider NHS through training

  • An annually elected Chairman who will set the agenda and represent the PPG at Patient Commissioning Group meetings; a Secretary to take the notes of the meeting which should be signed off within a week of the meeting; and a treasurer – if the PPG raises funds or has a budget
  • Members who are prepared to take on representative roles for specific patient groups or specialist roles such as communication, publicity, fund raising etc; and representatives from the Practice; and
  • A full calendar of meetings which is publicised on the Practice website and distributed to the Reference Group ***

Success Factors:  In delivering its aims and objectives the success of the PPG will be measured against the following factors:

  • Increased and wider – age, sex and race – membership of the PPG
  • Increased number of patient volunteering to improve the Practice; and
  • Greater transparency and understanding of the service changes for the patients
